IV Sedation

Dr. Wirig is experienced in IV Sedation, meeting or exceeding all Idaho state requirements on training and certification.  All required safety equipment is present and meticulously maintained.  Dr. Wirig has completed hundreds of documented IV sedation procedures.  Dr. Wirig maintains comprehensive conscious sedation credentials with continuous educational courses.  IV Sedation is the standard in the medical community for safe pleasant out patient surgery.

 

The goal of intravenous (IV) sedation is a very relaxed state where the patient is perfectly comfortable and still has control of his/her own airway (breathes by him/herself).  To accomplish this goal, an IV catheter will be placed in a vein in the arm or hand.  Various medications will be administered to make the patient relaxed, non-apprehensive, and sleepy.  The patient will not be unconscious.  Most patients report remembering only the start of the IV and being driven home by their escort.  Local anesthetic will also be used to numb the surgical area.

 

The benefits of IV Sedation include:

    • Relaxation – decrease in anxiety level.
    • Time compression – the procedure seems to be completed faster than real time.
    • The procedure is able to be completed most efficiently.  Thereby reducing post operative discomfort.

In addition to IV Sedation we also offer Oral Sedation and Nitrous Oxide.

 

Laser Dentistry

In a never ending commitment to the highest level of treatment Dr. Wirig has incorporated the DEKA CO2 laser.

This cutting edge technology has proven, miraculous results in a myriad of treatments. Lasers deliver energy in the form of light. Often times no local anesthesia is required. For soft tissue (surgical) procedures, it eliminates the need for scalpels and healing is much faster and virtually painless.

    Dr. Wirig is on the forefront of this amazing technology.  With training in this exciting field Dr Wirig is the first and only General practice to have an in house CBCT in the Coeur d' Alene area. The 3D images allow us to place implants better and safer.   We can better diagnose and treat oral conditions with this technology with little or no increase in radiology fees.  The difference is night and day compared to the older technology of a panoramic radiograph x-ray

    Digital imaging allows us to store patient images, and enables us to quickly and easily transfer them to specialists or insurance companies.

    Intraoral Camera

    Dr. Wirig utilizes intraoral cameras that help enhance your understanding of your diagnosis.  An intraoral camera allows us to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums.  With clear, defined, enlarged images, you see details that show exactly what conditions exist in the mouth. This can mean faster diagnosis with less chair-time for you!

    Intra oral cameras also enable our practice to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These images can be printed for you, other specialists, and your lab or insurance companies.
