Botox® For TMJ Treatment

Botox® For TMJ Treatment

If you suffer from a TMJ disorder, Dr. Brett Matteson may recommend relieving your discomfort and managing the problem with BOTOX®. While BOTOX is most commonly associated with cosmetic procedures, it is also a highly effective way to treat TMJ and improve your oral function. To learn more about BOTOX for TMJ treatment in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and schedule a consultation with our experienced prosthodontist, call Lakeview Dental today at 208-664-0884.

BOTOX® has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of conditions other than the more commonly known cosmetic uses. BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a medication injected into various parts of the body to temporarily relieve symptoms of various conditions. While BOTOX is commonly known as a cosmetic treatment, new technology allows patients to be relieved of symptoms caused by:

  • Hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating
  • Chronic migraines
  • TMJ disorders
  • Bruxism (grinding and clenching of teeth)

BOTOX works as a temporary solution to these conditions because when the medication is injected into your body, it temporarily blocks pain signals from the nerves to the muscles. BOTOX treatments are safe when performed by a certified BOTOX provider.

The amount of BOTOX used for each patient varies based on muscle mass and the severity of the condition being treated. Injections are most often made around your jaw, neck, or ears to soothe symptoms and pain. BOTOX involves no surgery, incisions or stitches, and is an outpatient procedure. Since BOTOX treatment is performed with a single needle, there are few, if any, marks left on your skin.

We invite you to call our office to learn more about non-cosmetic BOTOX treatments and to make your consultation appointment today.
